Carol Ann is my cousin, the daughter of my Dad's brother. Our two families were pretty close when I was growing up and we all spent a fair amount of time together at our homes and at our great aunt's house on Mobile Bay.Carol Ann was several years older than me, but we were good friends, and we both took singing lessons from Mrs. Thelma Owen. We appeared onstage together a number of times over the years as part of various skits and ensembles Mrs. Owen put together...but my highlight was singing vocal harmony with Carol in 1966 on the song "Vaya Con Dios". This was the first time I had ever sung harmony, and I remember the feeling of pride after I finally learned my part and sang onstage with Carol Ann. She had a great voice and it was easy to sing with her. This 1966 performance of "Vaya Con Dios" with my cousin Carol Ann is one of the many songs Mrs. Owen had the foresight to include in one of our yearly recording sessions. After so many years, it's amazing to still be able to listen to my very first attempt at vocal harmony! If you'd like to hear Carol and me sing this song, just visit the MUSIC link above Carol’s picture or click here. Love ya Carol Ann!
